Emily's Wedding Speech
October 11, 1997

Shalom. My name is Emily. I was one of the flower girls. I am the groom's (now also the bride's) niece. Aunt Jill asked me to write a poem for the wedding. So I wrote one for this very special occasion. I hope you like it. I also hope it doesn't steal the show (or should I say, the wedding!) Here it is. The title is, "Wedding Night."

Wedding Night

by Emily Kawaler

    The stars are out
    The moon is full.
    And so is
    The synagogue.
    A joyful dance
    Of color and
    Of congratulations.
    "Mazel Tov!" can be heard
    from smiling mouths.
Then a hush falls over the people.
    Music plays.
    A lovely girl soon enters
    Strewing petals on the mat.
    Then a white-clad,
    Smiling but solemn lady,
    All decked out in finery,
    The bride.
    A long, happy service
    Is over.
A man, a happy, joyous man,
    Kisses the bride.
    Song and dance,
    To celebrate,
    The husband and wife,
May they live in peace and happiness
    Forever!
